Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)


in which there are 4 themes, each theme is linked to an important Principle:

A Unique Child - Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships - Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.

Enabling Environments - The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children's development and learning.

Learning and Development - Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and inter-connected.

How children learn as a member of Grenfell Daycare


Your child is given generous care and attention, because of our high ratio of adults to children

Your child has opportunities to join in with other children and adults to play, learn and have fun together and make friendships.

Your child is helped to take forward his/her learning and development by being helped to build on what he/she already knows and can do

Your child is at a pre-school which see parent/s/carers as a partner in helping your child to learn and develop.

Your child is in a pre-school in which parent/s/carers help to shape the service it offers.

Your child Your child is in a safe, secure and stimulating environment where the staff are using the curriculum.


Grenfell Daycare believes that care and education are equally important in the experience which we offer children.  The routines and activities that make up the pre-school day are provided in ways that:

  • Help each child feel that they are a valued member of the pre-school
  • Ensure the safety of each child
  • Help children to gain from the social experience of being part of a group
  • Provide children with opportunities to learn and play
  • The pre-school organises its sessions so that children can choose from and work at a range of activities and in doing so build up their ability to select and work through a task to its completion. 
  • The children are also helped and encouraged to take part in adult-led small and large group activities, which introduce them to new experiences and helps them to gain new skills, as well as helping them to work with others.
  • The children have the opportunity and are encouraged to take part in outdoor child chosen and adult-led activities as well as those provided indoors. Outdoor activities contribute to children’s health, their physical development and their knowledge of the world around them.
